Sheila Simchon received her Master’s Degree and NY State Certification as a School Psychologist in 2006. In early 2013, Sheila was appointed by the Governor of New York as a board member on the Advisory Council for Licensed Private Career Schools serving as a liaison between students attending career schools and NY state officials to preserve and protect the rights of students.
Shortly after joining the council, she was nominated chair of the Student Access Subcommittee. In 2015, Sheila was nominated as Board member on the Advisory Council on Higher Education for Students with Disabilities serving as an advocate to advise the New York State Education Department (SED), and in particular the SED Offices of Higher Education, P-12 Special Education and Adult Career and Continuing Education Services (ACCES) in critical thinking and feedback on issues impacting access to, support during and successful completion for students with disabilities attending higher education institutions.
The council advises SED on policies and practices to improve the transition of students to post-secondary education and training, fiscal resource needed, and disability-related accommodations and supports that will assist a student with college success. Sheila received her second Master’s Degree as a Social Worker, MSW with a clinical focus, in 2017.
Upon moving to Florida, Sheila received her Florida state license as a school psychologist and clinical social worker.
A Little More About me
Sheila has served as a Learning Disabilities Specialist since 2006, training professionals in higher education on the best practices of working with students with learning disabilities.
She has also been providing clients with psycho-educational assessments to obtain appropriate accommodations and services, and providing individual support to students struggling in school, career, and life. Other previous roles also include: CUNY Learning Disabilities Project Coordinator (2006-2011) and Vice President of Programs at the Learning Disabilities Association of New York City (2011-2015). In addition to Learning Disabilities, Sheila has done extensive research and has developed programs that support adults with disabilities looking to transition to adulthood.
Support includes; career development, social skills, self-care, and independent living skills. Sheila has also provided support to individuals struggling with life and looking for personal growth, couples looking for strengthening their relationship, and families looking to cope with stressful transitions that impact the family as a whole.
With dedicated passion, Sheila utilizes a holistic therapeutic approach that works with every client to maximize their potential and offer individualized guidance to support & empower for success – in education, career, and life.
