Stress Management

Are your frequently irritable? Do you have trouble sleeping? Do you end up forgetting things frequently?

If you answered yes, to one or more of the questions above, you may be suffering from stress. Stress is a situation that must be tackled in a focused manner, and I can help you manage it.

In today’s fast-paced and digitally wired world, stress has become all too common. Stress is the body’s response to external environmental conditions. Planning how to pay your bills, or how to deal with the super tricky boss in the office, family obligations, kids, struggling to get on with life, having a disability, or living with someone with a disability, are all causes of stress.

Stress can cause emotional, physical, and mental health risks. Medically, the stress hormones give rise to various chemicals and hormones in the body which may be advantageous in the short run but undoubtedly harmful and debilitating in the long term. They have an adverse impact on the body’s organs and functions and can weaken the immune system and nervous system. Stressful times may cause your body to have a physical reaction, such as sweating, heart palpitations, and dilated pupils. You may feel a fight, fright or flight reaction to any situation. Some mental health risks may include depression, anxiety, panic arracks, adjustment disorders etc. These risks affect your overall quality of life.
I cannot take away your stressors, as they are part of life, however, I can help you manage them. As an expert in neurodevelopmental disabilities, I can teach you about your disability (knowledge is power) and provide specific individualized strategies to help you cope with your struggles. For those that feel overwhelmed with the physical symptoms of stress, I can offer stress management strategies that will help you improve your overall quality of life. I utilize various techniques to help you identify your stressors and find appropriate coping skills. Some of the strategies you will learn are how to recognize the signs of your body’s response to stress, learn various relaxing techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation, yoga, or other gentle exercises, and setting goals and prioritizing to reduce feeling overwhelmed. The goal will be to achieve balance in life without the harmful stress burdening your body and mind.
